Dr Magdalena Balmaseda (female) is the head of the Earth System Predictability Section of ECMWF’s Research Department. She is an expert on earth system reanalysis and  seasonal forecasts. She is also expert on  the use of observational data sets for assimilation and verification. She has contributed extensively to collaborative research projects, such as H2020 EUROSEA, ATLANTOS and SPICES, FP7 MyOcean, COMBINE, MyOcean 2, ERA-CLIM2, ESA-CCI initiative, and the ESA-funded project CERA on the production of coupled reanalysis. She also participated in EU-funded projects such as DEMETER and ENSMEBLES. She is a member of the CLIVAR Scientific Steering Committee, the GODAE-Ocean View Scientific Steering Team, the Euro-Argo Scientific Advisory committee.
